About This Place

Located in the heart of Mineola, NY, The Rex is a standout destination for enthusiasts of both hearty hamburgers and fresh seafood, artfully bridging two beloved American classics with a refined yet approachable style. Specializing in expertly crafted burgers and lobster rolls, this restaurant offers a focused menu that celebrates quality ingredients and bold flavors, drawing locals and visitors alike to savor its signature dishes.

The culinary spotlight at The Rex shines brightest on their much-praised Rex Burger: two all-natural beef patties layered with melted American cheese, crisp lettuce, ripe tomato, sweet grilled onions, and their house-made Rex Sauce. At just under $12, this burger is a revelation—juicy, perfectly seasoned beef melds with each fresh element, creating an indulgent, mouthwatering bite that lingers long after the last chew. For those craving a more upscale twist on the classic, the Filet Mignon Sandwich features a 6 oz center-cut filet, caramelized onions, and melted cheese, elevating the sandwich experience to something truly memorable.

Seafood lovers will find themselves equally enchanted. The Classic Lobster Roll, served Maine style with warm butter on a crisp toasted bun, delivers tender lobster meat that’s fresh and decadent, boasting a natural buttery sweetness that feels indulgent without being heavy. Fans of fried seafood can opt for the crunchy and flavorful Fried Shrimp Sandwich or the Crispy Fish Sandwich, each served with choice sauces like spicy mayo or tartar that add layers of piquancy and creaminess, appealing to a range of palates.

Complementing these mains are thoughtfully curated sides such as golden, perfectly seasoned French Fries and the luxurious Lobster Cheese Fries, which pile chunks of lobster atop crispy fries coated with luscious cheese sauce—a decadent twist that seafood aficionados rave about.

Step inside The Rex and you’ll immediately notice its minimalist yet inviting atmosphere. Clean lines and neutral tones create a relaxed environment that shifts the focus squarely onto the food and your dining company. The open front on warm days and a handful of outdoor seats add an airy, casual vibe perfect for lunch or a laid-back dinner. Customers appreciate the spacious layout and the option to enjoy thoughtfully made beer, cocktails, and wine, all of which round out the experience. The presence of a bar adds a sociable touch, though some diners have expressed hope for an expanded drink menu in the future.

Real diners frequently highlight the exceptional quality of the ingredients and the care that goes into each dish. From the perfectly cooked, juicy burgers to the rich, fresh lobster that defines the rolls, the attention to detail is undeniable. Portions are generous and satisfying, though some note the lobster roll’s serving can be modest, making it a great option alongside other menu items. The Rex balances casual comfort with culinary precision in a way that feels both special and accessible.

Whether you’re stopping by after a busy morning errands or seeking a cozy spot to savor an elevated take on classic American fare, The Rex in Mineola offers an authentic, delicious escape. While getting my car serviced at Barnwell Tires, I discovered The Rex Burger & Lobster just across the street. I decided to try their standard burger and the lobster roll with warm butter. The burger was excellent, featuring high-quality meat and generous portions. However, fries are not included and must be ordered separately. The lobster roll was also very good, though the portion was a bit on the smaller side. They offer a wide selection of beer, cocktails, and wine at reasonable prices. Overall, it’s a fantastic spot for lunch—highly recommended!

In the heart of Mineola, The Rex Burger & Lobster stands as a testament to the enduring appeal of classic American fare, executed with a contemporary twist. The establishment’s minimalist decor, characterized by clean lines and understated hues, directs the diner’s focus squarely onto the culinary offerings—a strategy that pays off handsomely. The menu, though succinct, is a curated selection of indulgent delights. The signature Rex Burger, a towering assembly of a juicy patty, crisp lettuce, ripe tomato, and a tangy house sauce, is ensconced within a perfectly toasted bun that manages to contain the flavorful onslaught without disintegrating—a feat not to be underestimated. Equally compelling is the Lobster Roll, a generous portion of tender, sweet lobster meat lightly dressed and nestled in a buttery, toasted split-top roll. The simplicity of its preparation allows the freshness of the seafood to shine, offering a taste reminiscent of coastal New England summers. The accompanying fries, golden and impeccably crisp, serve as an ideal counterpart to the main attractions. An unexpected highlight is the array of dipping sauces, with the spicy mayo providing a pleasant kick that elevates the experience. Service is efficient and unpretentious, aligning with the restaurant’s casual ambiance. Orders are placed at the counter, and despite the potential for chaos during peak hours, the staff maintains a composed and friendly demeanor, ensuring that diners feel attended to without unnecessary fuss. In an era where culinary establishments often chase avant-garde trends, The Rex Burger & Lobster’s commitment to perfecting the fundamentals is both refreshing and commendable. It’s a place where indulgence meets precision, offering a dining experience that satisfies both nostalgic cravings and contemporary palates.

The burger was cooked to perfection—juicy, flavorful, and expertly seasoned. But the true star of the meal was the lobster—fresh, tender, and cooked just right, bringing a rich, buttery taste that elevated the entire dining experience. Every bite showcased quality ingredients and expert preparation. A must-try for any seafood and burger lover!

Oh boy! I found me a new spot!! I had the biggest lobster roll I've ever had and it was every bit as amazing as it looked. This place is super casual. Take it to go or enjoy your stay and if you stay the interior of the place is very very nice. I was there on a hot summer day and the whole front was open with a couple of out door seats. There's a bar too if you'd like, just wish they had a drink menu. Also, if you've never been, it's hard to tell that you order and seat yourself as you take your order in the back, I had to stumble in and didn't figure it out until someone eventually noticed me. Also, wasn't too big on their fries and I love french fries, I appreciate how their hand made and prepared and all but they just didn't do it for me; too skinny. Other than that, staff was helpful and food came out fairly quick. I will be back and I'm putting my friends on.

Had a quick lunch, ordered their Classic Lobster Roll, Maine style with warm butter. Lobster was fresh, cooked just right and wrapped with crisp toasted bun. Downside was the serving portion is small for the Classic. The atmosphere is great though, spacious for groups to hangout as they serve beer, cocktails and wine.

Recently visited this fine restaurant. Food is exquisite. Very tasty and amazing. I just wished they gave salad or some greenery with the orders as complimentary but I believe they have salad for purchase on the side. For our group we tried the lobsters supreme which was pricy but worth the taste. It’s definitely a sandwich dedicated to seafood lovers or lobster enthusiasts. We also ordered fries which were really good too! We also ordered a hot brownie shake which was absolutely delicious especially if you’re a chocolate flavor individual. Definitely will be back to try the burgers and chicken sandwich and also the salad!
